Call for Scores for Flute and Clarinet Music
“The Greatest Music That You’ve Never Heard Before!”
The Vermillion Duet is happy to announce the Call for Scores for their May 2022 Recital at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol! The project, named ‘The Greatest Music That You’ve Never Heard Before!’, seeks composition works for flute and clarinet with an optional third instrument of your choice.

Entries must use flute and clarinet in some capacity.

There is no age limit.

Preference will be given to underrepresented composers who currently reside in Louisiana; composers identifying as women, gender non-conforming, LGBTQ+, ALAANA (African/Black, Latinx, Asian/South Asian, Arab/Middle Eastern, and Native American), and more.

Fee: The call is completely free of charge

Vermillion Duet: Melody Wan (flute in C, piccolo, traverso), Thomas Kim (clarinet in Bb and A)

We accept works written for flute and clarinet or the duo plus one more instrument (preferably cello or piano)

All submissions should be submitted to the google forms (click the apply button below) or sent via email to: jhthomask@gmail.com with the subject heading “Vermillion Duet | Louisiana’s Old Capitol – Call for Scores – Your Name” and should include a link (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc) for the following files:
PDF score and program notes
MP3 recording or recording links (MIDI realizations will be accepted)
A short biographical essay about the applicant’s diverse background

The result will be announced no later than March 31th 2022. The selected composers will be notified by email as soon as the decision has been reached.

The winning composers will receive cash prizes, certificates, one or more performances, and a live recording from the performance at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol on May 1st 2022

[Vermillion Duet]
The Vermillion Duet is a Louisiana-based flute and clarinet duo established in 2020 by Taiwanese-American flutist Yuh-Jiun Melody Wan and Korean Clarinetist Janghyun Thomas Kim. Avid new music performers, the Vermillion Duet is the recipient of the Chamber Music America Digital Artist Residency grant in 2021 and has performed at San Diego Flute Spring Festival and Seattle Flute Society Festival. The duo specializes in Classical and Contemporary repertoire, being well-versed in both extended techniques and the standard classical style. The Vermillion Duet’s mission is to discover and commission new music by underrepresented composers, especially women and ALAANA (Africa/Black, Latin, Asian/South Asian, Arab, and Native American) composers, spreading diversity and inclusion in today’s musical landscape.
